- - - Abstract: "The dissertation deals with the single-family house's development in Sweden during a time period characterized by quick changes and strongly increasing general economic welfare. In the introducing chapter is discussed two fundamental ideas - the owner-occupied house respectively the detached house. The two ideas can be said to represent two completely different conceptions around the single-family house, where the owner-occupied is associated with a living form characterized by a certain size of production, while the notions around life in a detached house are almost exclusively characterized by consumption. The discussion serves as a beginning for an analysis of single-family housing building during the years 1950-1980. The detached house buildings extent and localization is described, as well as the single-family house's architectural, design-technical and building-technical development is described in the section about activities within The Industry's Association, the Housing Committee and the Saving Banks housing-saving. In the last named chapter is also mentioned estate house building and new town plan patterns. The continuing rationalization of detached house production is also described, as well as the catalogue house branch's marketing of the single-family house and the characteristics around detached house living which is put into context. This also is analysed in a chapter about different journals, where even the architectural competitions and exhibitions which occur thoughout the years are discribed. Finally the importance for development of different international influences are discribed, as well as the remains of regional building traditions. To this development is joined the experiences from a wide inventory in seven different places all over the country - from Staffanstorp in the south to Bastuträsk in the north. The inventory is documented in a special chapter, where even the detached-house area's development in the different places is analysed and serves as a starting-point for a more general discription of the single-family house's situation in the post-war period's housebuilding. Wolfgang Fritz Haug's formulated critic of 'product esthetics' has been used as a theoretical starting point. The historical housing research, with its combination of archive and literature studies as well as field-work, has methodically been a prototype. The dessertation's result is summerized in a chapter where the single-family house's development during the period 1950-1980 is described. A simple typology is presented, which shows that the single-family houses which were built during the period can be divided into eight categories, and how the single-family house successively developed from owner-occupied house to detached house - from a dwelling partly characterized by living as well as production to a dwelling where one lives an consumes. How the single-family house all the more clearly has come to be arranged in the other consumer production and is equarted with products in the other capital consumer market, such as cars, boats etc. Where the material industry has a strong position and the production to a greater degree has come to be directed towards entiring details and the product's glitter".
