The nucleus of that exhibition comprised four paintings: The Andrians and The Worship of Venus by Titian, and Rubens' copies of them. The theme of the exhibition was artistic inspiration or a dialogue between two masters. Visitors were able to see for themselves how two of the masterpieces of the world's art had generated two more. The exhibition assumed slightly different characters in Stockholm and Madrid respectively. In Stockholm we chose to reconstruct the original surroundings of Titian's paintings, viz the Camerino d'Alabastro, Alfonso d'Este's studiolo in Ferrara. There has been a good deal of debate concerning both the position of the studiolo in the Ducal Palace and the arrangements of the paintings in the room. Our aim was to elucidate the problems for the benefit of both visitors to the museum and Participants in the symposium, and a number of Papers read during the symposium were concerned with these issues. [...] In Madrid, the dialogue between Titian and Rubens was further underscored by the inclusion there of both artists' versions of The Fall and Rubens' Europa and the Bull. The Bacchanals, however, were the pivotal theme of the exhibition and the symposium. Most of the speakers concentrated on them, while Kristin Belkin and Christopher Brown also included Van Dyck in the discussion. Van Dyck's Amaryllis and Mirtillo, the composition of which is closely akin to The Andrians, was borrowed from the Göteborg Museum of Art for the Stockholm exhibition." - - - (Nationalmusei skriftserie, N.S., 10.)
