(Solen och Nordstjärnan.) - - - Essays and 718 catalogue entries. Documenting a vast array of decorative objects and art works selected mainly from Swedish collections, this substantial catalogue presents a wide-ranging review of cultural ties between France and Sweden during the 18th century, a period when French architects and designers played key roles in the design and decoration of the royal palace in Stockholm and when Swedish court art was strongly influenced by French models. Illustrations and descriptions of hundreds of porcelain and metal objects, furniture pieces, garments, stage designs, architectural drawings, portrait paintings and sculptures, and other diverse works accompany some 55 texts examining topics related to artistic, political, economic and intellectual life in Sweden during the period, from the construction of the royal palace and the activities of Louis Masreliez, Louis Jean Desprez and other French artists in the country to the achievements of Swedish scientists and the political alliance of France and Sweden during the reign of Gustavus III.
