Text in Italian. - - - (Publisher:) "A very poor country boy descends into the brilliant Padua of the university, of the rich artistic workshops, of Donatello's foundries. He suddenly finds himself projected into one of the most advanced artistic centers of European humanism. Armed with prodigiously precocious gifts and an enviable capacity for learning, Andrea Mantegna became in the space of a few years the spearhead of the classical and Renaissance evolution of art in northern Italy. After the first decade of activity in Veneto, he was called to Mantua by the ambitious Gonzaga. Thus was born the unparalleled fusion between the celebratory and ornamental needs of a noble court and the stubborn, passionate recovery of classical art, a dream pursued throughout his life.
