London, Chapman and Hall, 1864-65. 20 parts in 19 issues. As issued in publisher's printed wrappers. Interiors with some faint, occasional foxing, else fine. Parts 2, 3, 6, 8, 18 are unopened and near fine except for some occasional minor foxing, parts 7 and 9 just slightly soiled and with a couple of tiny chips, tears and creases along the edges, wrappers of parts 4, 5, 11, 13, 14, 16, 19/20 are soiled and chipped with rear wrappers loose, wrappers of part 12 somewhat soiled and chipped and with both wrappers loose, spines and wrappers of parts 1, 10 and 15 somewhat soiled and quite heavily chipped. All parts complete with advertisements except for the following parts: part 5 (3x21 cm of the margin torn out from page 5/6), part 10 (one slip missing (“New Serial by Capt. Main Reid”), ca 7,5 x 8 cm part torn out from page 1 of ad for ”Liverpool & London & Globe”), part 14 (all 16 pages of advertisements at the front torn out), part 15 (half of page 15-16 torn out from advertisements at the front, a total of 6 pages missing from the advertisements at the back (Liverpool & London & Globe (4 pp.) + Mappin, Webb & Co (2 pp.)) and part 19/20 (missing slip at the back (“Foreign Bank Notes”); two copies of ad, “The Scottish Widows' Fund”, of which one is loosely inserted and the other copy is torn with half the ad missing). The following parts are all complete but with variations as specified: part 1 (“Fry's Homeopathic Cocoa” (on lemon coloured paper), “The Queen Insurance Company” (on green paper)), part 2 (two copies of “Fry's Iceland Moss Cocoa”), part 6 (two copies each of “Norton’s Camomille Pills” and “Armadale” slip, “Liverpool & London & Globe” printed on cream coloured paper), part 8 (slips as described but with additional, loosely inserted slip on orange coloured paper: “Charles Lever's Works”), part 9 (“Dr E Jongh's” with textual variation + ad with the original text loosely inserted, two copies of “Albert Insurance Company”). Plates in fine condition except for where noted: part 1 (slightly foxed), part 3 (slightly foxed), part 4 (foxed, heavy damp-staining at the lower edges), part 5 (slight damp-staining at the edges), part 6 (trifle foxing), part 8 (trifle foxing at edges), part 10 (slightly foxed), part 11 (heavy damp-staining), part 12 (heavy damp-staining), part 13 (some damp-staining at upper corners), part 14 (slightly foxed), part 15 (slightly foxed, damp-staining at upper edges), part 16 (slightly foxed, slight damp-staining at upper edges), part 17 (heavy damp-staining at lower edges), part 18 (trifle foxing at edges), part 19/20 (slightly foxed, damp-staining at upper edges).
