* Arthur Conan Doyle came into contact with the spiritual worlds after several of his family members died during and shortly after World War I. He firmly believed in the after-life, and with this book, he took a strong interest in proving the existance of other-worldly beings, like fairies and ghosts. The photograph this book is based upon was proven to be a hoax decades later, but was taken quite seriously by many people at the time of its publication.
