In fact, to tell you what is worth seeing - where to see it - where to go - how to go - and whom to stop with while passing over the Union Pacific Railroad, Central Pacific Railroad of Cal., Their Branches and Connections by Stage and Water, from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. Illustrated. Crofutt and Eaton, Chicago 1870. 244 + woodcut plates and numerous coloured leaves of advertisements. The last leaves [p. 241-44, two paes of ads + woddcut of Native American Peace Chief of the Shoshone] lacking, but enclosed in photocopies. Also the foldable timetable between ps. 16 and 17 only has a stub the size of on page left [we haven't been able to find a copy of this]. Bound with the original woodcut front wrapper [a bit soiled and restored at the edges] in a almost contemporary half calf binding with stamped sidepapers. No spine title. A little soiling here and there. A nice, solid copy, even with the flaws of a few missing leaves. * Very scarce. Fantastic travel guide to propel you back in time to the first year of the Transcontinental Railroad, one of the major engineering achivements of the 19th century. The railroad was finished in 1869, so this is the first major guide for the average American to go see the mighty land by train. The advertisments take you right back to the everyday life of 150 years ago, where you can buy matresses, furs, watches - and even go to Tiffany & Co. on 550 Braodway and buy 'Fancy Goods'.

KONGELOVEN - AFSKRIFT/ROSTGAARD, FREDERIK (udg.).
Vangsgaards Antikvariat
vga865203

E[manuel] W[ölffel] & Balthasar Otto Bosseck, Flensburg 1717. 4to. [24]+180+[24]+[184]+[8]+208+280+118 pages. Titlepages (2) and the dedication to King Frederik IV printed in red and black. Contemporary brown calf binding. Old name on titlepage. Binding superficially worn, but intact. First pages with wormholes at top end. Slight spotting to top-edge. * The third issue of the edition in Low German - Platdeutsch - of the Jutland Law from 1241, by far the most important of the medieval Danish law complexes. While the Jutland Law was finally replaced by The Danish Law of King Christian V in 1683, the medieval predecessor continued to function in the Duchy of Schleswig, which situated as it was between Denmark and the Holy Roman Empire was ruled by both the Danish king and a range of German-speaking dukes in common. This double administration ended i 1713 when the full duchy came under Danish rule again. The law continued to function even after Schleswig was conquered by Prussia in 1864 and was finally abolished as of January 1st 1900. This version was first published in 1593. This third edition is accompanied by a detailed commentary by Joachim Blüting.

2 bind i 1. Uden sted og trykker (sandsynligvis Flensborg) 1708 & 1717. 8vo. (22)+216+512 sider. Smukt samtidigt brunt hellæderbind med rig rygforgyldning. Navn på bagsiden af forsatsbladet. Tilskrift (1807) på fribladet. Exlibris (Bjørn Kornerup). * Bibl. Dan. I,249.
